Aiko

Lady Aiko is an acclaimed mixed-media street artist whose vibrant work has redefined contemporary urban art. Born and raised in Tokyo, she has been living and working in New York since 1997, where she earned her MFA at The New School for Media Studies. She began her street art career as an assistant to the legendary Pop artist Takashi Murakami and has since collaborated with several iconic figures, including Banksy.

Aiko created her signature "Bunny" stencil in 2005 at Banksy’s studio in London, first spraying it onto his studio’s bathroom door. A symbol of love, independency, and freedom, AIKO has since been travelling with the stencil and spraying all over the world.  When reflecting on navigating a traditionally male-dominated genre, Aiko notes, “It was fun to work with boys, but I really wanted to make something for myself.”

True to her name—which translates to "Love"—Aiko infuses her work with a distinct, affectionate energy. As a versatile mixed-media artist, she combines stencils, glitter, spray paint, and acrylics on unconventional surfaces ranging from mirrors and found wood to car hoods. Her imagery draws deeply from popular culture, exploring themes of sexuality and femininity to offer a refreshing, powerful female perspective on classic street art style.
