John Wiltshire

John Wiltshire is a figurative painter, originally from Pembury in Kent. A keen observer, John often works in themed series, focusing on subjects close to him. Having recently relocated to East Kent, much of his work has been in direct response to this region as he seeks connection and meaning in this new landscape. Other pieces centre around objects and notes collected during his expeditions. Filled with display cases of found objects, his studio—much like his canvases—has become a space to investigate his natural heritage and the folk stories connected to the local area, resulting in works imbued with a profound sense of belonging.

With a career spanning roughly 40 years—having first sold art at age nine—Wiltshire graduated from the Kent Institute of Art & Design in 1992 and has since exhibited widely, including at the RA Summer Exhibition, the Royal Watercolour Society (where he won first prize twice), and Lincoln's Collection and Usher Gallery.
