Alison Saunders
Originally from Ashford, Alison Saunders lived in London before settling in Canterbury. Her artistic journey began in illustration and graphic design at the Kent Institute of Art and Design (now UCA). After a career in teaching and raising a family, Alison has recently returned to her easel, producing still lifes and landscapes in her favourite medium of oil.
An avid gardener, Alison draws much of her inspiration from the natural world, often painting en plein air to capture the shifting nuances of light and colour. By experimenting with temperature and hue - whether through the immediacy of alla prima or the depth of traditional layering - she seeks to capture the essence of her subjects. Much of her work is a quiet study in observation: the specific posture of a flower, the gesture of a petal, or the slight movement of a leaf in the breeze.
